tip: your browser can't open a raw TCP socket to port 6667 directly, so this page uses a WebSocket→IRC gateway. If you want the "real" experience, grab a native client on the connect page.

Try a different nickname (someone might already own that one).
Corporate / school firewalls sometimes block IRC gateways. Try mobile data.
Open a native client and point it at irc.lucidchat.net:6667. See connect.
If the server itself is down, the indicator up top will go dark.
